Bill Evans (Owner & Director of Coaching)    



Bill has been involved with swimming for most of his life and has been coaching for the past 20 years. Bill has provided swim training services and triathlon coaching to the Cairns triathlon community since 2009, prior to which he was coaching in the UK for 10 years.  While in the UK as well as being the Head Coach and Swimming Development Manager for Harrogate Borough Council , Bill also coached on British Swimming World Class Programs and placed several athletes on national podiums and onto national programs. In recent years Bill and the team at Will Swim and Tri Coaching have placed several athletes at World Championship events including IRONMAN 70.3,  ITU  and UCI World Championships. Bill is also very passionate about swimming development and infant aquatics and has been involved in the learn to swim industry for almost 25 years, he is also certified as a UKCC Level 3 Performance Swim Coach, a Level 2 Surf Swim Coach, a Bronze Licence swim coach, a Triathlon Australia Development coach and a Certified IRONMAN Coach. 

Luke Johnston (Head Coach)

Luke took up the sport in 2010 as a bucket list opportunity and participated in his first triathlon at the 2010 coral coast triathlon. Since then he has represented Australia at two age group world championships over the Olympic distance and competed in multiple long course events. He has held roles in the development and management of the local triathlon Club, the Cairns Crocs. His coaching interests are in developing athletes to their full potential; and developing and providing pathways for high performance athletes in regional areas.






Ben Has been a competitive swimmer for most of his life . He had the privilege of training under Olympic coach Mr Ken Wood. During his time under Coach Wood Ben represented Australia and was a finalist at the 2004 FINA World Short course championships. In 2005 Ben was ranked in the top 20 in the world for the 100m Butterfly. Ben has previously been the Head Coach for the Mossman Swim club and in 2008/9 he and the club gained numerous swimming awards from Swimming Queensland. Ben has a Cert 2 in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) and is a Bronze State Level Coach.

Mary-Anne Elkington is a specialist in pre-school movement education, has a successful cycling background and has been involved in triathlon since 2009. She has achieved many podium finishes in triathlon and time-trial cycling including gold at the European Union Sprint Triathlon Championships and she is two time winner of the Queensland time-trial Championships. Mary-Anne's passion and experience are a valuable addition to Azure TNQ's junior development and Try Stars program.

Will Swim and Tri Coaching provide a coach lead, athlete centred approach to swimming, triathlon, multisport and endurance sport training  which develops each athlete to achieve both short term objectives and long term development.
